Hi there
So many people have been coming to me sharing that they’re feeling these intense emotions and they don’t know how to make sense of it. Even that oftentimes these emotions are coming out of nowhere!
Have you been experiencing this too?
If you are, I want to share with you that it’s because what we’ve been suppressing inside ourselves for years is now coming to the surface quickly. I’m also noticing, as we try to hold this within ourselves it’s becoming more uncomfortable by the minute.
So it’s rising up in unexpected ways and inconvenient moments.
It’s like this…
I always like to use the analogy of the beach ball. What it’s like when we suppress an emotion is akin to holding a beach ball under water with all our strength.
Until you get so tired and you get so exhausted that you just can’t hold it under the water anymore. So you let go and you let it pop up. You may ask yourself, why was I putting so much effort into holding this ball under water in the first place?
This is how we’ve avoided our emotions in the past. We keep going, we distract ourselves and we stay busy.
That’s because for many of us there’s a fear there. The fear is in the unknown. We’re afraid to go somewhere we haven’t been before.
When we’re moving our emotions the key to relief (like I explained with my beach ball analogy) is to allow an emotion to not only be there but also to move.
Emotions are meant to be felt but what we’ve been taught is to try to figure them out. We attach a story to it and we even sometimes identify with the emotion.
The truth is you are meant to feel it all! All emotions are on the table.
The problem is if you create a story around an emotion or over analyze it it turns into a thought and we begin to identify with it in our minds.
Overtime this emotion begins to congeal in your body and you may end up with a lot of physical restriction and possibly pain.
In order to move an emotion we have to feel it. We have to feel it in the moment and get present with it. This will naturally allow an emotion to move through.
Then we learn to embody the feeling (get grounded in the body) which integrates the energy of the emotion. You can do this with exercise and with how you take care of your body everyday.
Because emotions by definition are energy in motion and when you understand that an emotion is just energy then you realize that it does not define you. It’s just something that you experience.
Over the years I’ve helped a lot of people through emotional coaching because I realized years ago that this work is directly connected to our physical health.
I also felt like this kind of work needed a more sacred space. A space beyond the gym, so I created the Finally Thriving community where you get to experience the support of a loving community and you get to work with me in a group setting every month.
I wanted to make it both affordable and enjoyable. A space where you get to connect with yourself and come back to your true authenticity and health every month. A place where we can put this into practice together.
This month our theme is facing your fears with courage and it’s all about vulnerability. Something so many of us are afraid to face within ourselves.
But just like emotions there comes a time when you just can’t hold it in anymore like you used to. Then you know it’s time to let go of the old stuff and explore that which you haven’t experienced about yourself yet (the new stuff ;)
