Fitness Is Shifting This Year!

By Allison Pelot

Hi there

I’m sure like many of us, for you there’s a level of reflection as we approach the end of the year. I always like to tune into a theme for the new year and then close out and appreciate the prior year.

Reflecting on what I’ve been through, what I’ve done, how I feel and how I’ve grown. Honoring the people and the experiences I had that year too. So to honor what you went through and then appreciate all the things you loved is my way of stepping into the new year.

For me 2024 was a year of inner reflection and refinement and I learned so much from it. (I’ll go into this more in my story below.)

What I’m seeing for 2025 is all about refinement, refining those parts of ourselves that we’ve resisted, ignored or rejected in the past.

I see fitness going through a refinement process too. People are getting smarter about fitness because the industry is evolving. There’s so much we know now that we didn’t before and I think this is very exciting!

Where Fitness Is Shifting

We now know that menopause can be a time for getting in the best shape of your life. Research has shown that even though you stop producing anabolic (muscle building) hormones during menopause you can still produce an anabolic effect with weight lifting and by increasing your protein intake. This is a game changer for those women who want to replace the hormones naturally.

We know that the knees over toes approach to squatting is healthier for your knees. We’re understanding that it’s not only better it’s imperative for stronger more stable knees to train through a full range of motion.

The body building approach to training isn’t just for body builders anymore. It has gained new traction with women over 40. We’re discovering the benefits of combining a muscle building workout with a more functional approach to fitness is a lot more effective than your average shot in the dark fitness class.

And we are discovering that if we keep moving into our elder years we can maintain a very high quality of life. There’s a trend with people over 60 who are continuing to exercise and staying more active as they get older. We’re discovering that this is the fountain of youth for mobility freedom.

We just didn’t see the potential until now.

So there’s growth there for all of us!

My clients are coming to me ready to make real change in their life without the resistance they may have had before. They’re understanding how fitness fits into the lifestyle equation and why it’s not separate.

They’re getting more curious about their fitness and excited to make this a lifestyle instead of a quick fix. This is a huge shift from what I was seeing before.

Where do you see areas in your fitness routine that can be refined?

Without all the shame and fear we attached to it before. Approaching it practically learning how to apply these foundations of health and fitness into your everyday life.

Getting curious about your fitness while discovering your joy in the process.

I want to share a little bit about my own journey because it hasn’t always been easy. In fact it’s been quite challenging.

At the beginning of 2024 I was offsetting stress from 2022 and 2023. I launched my very first book,Finally Thriving, in 2022. I created a course from the book, launched my course, recorded my own audio book, made an appearance on over 50 podcasts that year all while I was seeing my weekly one on one fitness clients.

I also had my own podcast and the year after I guided four successful groups through the Finally Thriving Program.

Looking back I can clearly see how that was a lot for me, and as amazing as it was, it left me feeling drained. I gained weight, I had brain fog and I no longer had space in my day to take care of my own needs.

I knew going into it there would be a higher level of work so I could accomplish what I needed to (even with the added support of others) but after it was over I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my own health anymore.

So I took a break.

I let go of my eight year running podcast, I prioritized space for me daily to explore myself spiritually and creatively. I transformed the Finally Thriving Program into the Finally Thriving Community monthly membership.

The one thing I neglected most during this time was my own fitness, so I started to prioritize that again. I made necessary changes in how I ate to balance hormonal fluctuations. I made my own gym time a non negotiable and I took things off of my plate that didn’t support my own projects and dreams.

Now I find myself in this place of gratitude for what’s in front of me. Because I see that everything I need is right here and even inside me.

I’m no longer chasing something I feel like I have to have or need to be. It felt amazing to finally have the space to not only be me but also imagine what I’d like to see more of in my life.

After I made these changes I came across the Athletic Truth Group coaching program. I’d endured knee surgery when I was a gymnast in high school and I wanted to see if my knee could improve in my 50’s and it has!

So I decided to become an ATG coach which is something I’ll share more of with you in the coming year.

By simplifying my life this way, life became more easeful and I started to enjoy it in a very new way.

In the end isn’t that what we all want? To enjoy our lives.

Now I have a thriving coaching business and a beautiful Finally Thriving Community with a schedule that allows me to have time and space for myself.

I had to refine what mattered most to me and let go of and resolve all the stuff that wasn’t working for me anymore.

And I believe that’s something we can all do!

2025 is feeling like a year where we’ll be refining ourselves more and more. Can you relate? Refining into higher aspects of our energy and our physicality. In very simple yet innocent and pure ways (without the ego getting involved).

In a way that feels true for you.

I’m real excited to share with you the potential that’s ahead for all of us in fitness and beyond!
