The Missing Link In Training

By Allison Pelot

Hi there

Five years ago, I could barely bend my right knee. Decades after reconstructive surgery as a high school gymnast, I lived with swelling, pain and back instability anytime I tried heavy squats.

And this was years of experience as a trainer! I honestly thought I’d just have to live with it the rest of my life— like most of us do, believing it’s simply the price of getting older.

Then I stumbled onto a training method called ATG (Athletic Truth Group)—and it changed everything. Today, at 52, I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, my back pain is gone and my knee moves almost through its full range again. And the best part? My clients are seeing incredible results from this method too!

The difference was so profound that I became a certified ATG Coach. In over 20 years as a personal trainer, I’ve never seen another system that gives people such a practical, sustainable way to train. It was the missing link for me in my training routine.

Here’s why…

Unlike many programs that burn you out with quick fixes or a “do more” mentality—leaving you frustrated because they aren’t tailored to your individual needs—ATG fits seamlessly into daily life. It delivers real lasting results by targeting the areas you’ve been avoiding (like working towards full range of motion in the joint) and teaching you to lean into the places that need the most attention.

You get back your time and energy with plenty of improved strength along the way. For me, this is the missing link for longevity—and I truly believe it’s what’s been missing in fitness all along.

Maybe you’ve heard of “knees over toes” training or seen it online and wondered what it’s all about. ATG was founded by Ben Patrick—famously known as the “Knees Over Toes Guy”—and it’s a system now recommended by trainers and physical therapists worldwide.

In my podcast episode, I break it down for you:

  • What ATG really is and how it works

  • Why it challenges decades of outdated fitness advice

  • The key principles behind building full-range strength

  • How it bridges the gap between rehab and elite performance

  • Why it’s never too late to build pain-free strength and mobility—the foundation for longevity and aging well

Whether you’re an athlete, recovering from injury, or just want to move without pain, this conversation will give you a new way to think about fitness.

Here’s one of my favorite moves to teach: the ATG Split Squat.

In this video, I walk you through simple progressions you can do at the gym or right at home. This exercise is powerful because it mobilizes and strengthens every muscle in the leg —which is exactly why I love it!
