Hi there
I’ve been on a journey to discover myself and helping others do the same for over 20 years now and here’s what I’ve learned… I am my practice.
In other words my inner exploration is both my fitness and my spiritual practice. Fitness is a self discovery journey. We naturally learn more about ourselves as we learn how to take care of ourselves and our body.
This is when we integrate what we’re learning by taking personal responsibility and applying it to our everyday lives. We begin to take ownership in both how we treat our body and for how we feel inside.
This leads you to take it one step further and learn more about your emotions and eventually you get curious about who you really are.
All of these things; holistic fitness, nutrition, emotional wellness and the healing arts, bring us back to who we truly are. That stillness inside.
But this can be confusing when we’re not aware of what’s happening on a subconscious level. All those things we surpassed in our live to get by and survive. The truth is your subconscious runs the show until you take the time and space to bring it into your conscious awareness.
The awareness point at which you realize everything you experience in your inside world is mirrored back to you on some level in the outside world.
This can look like something physical or feel like something energetic and it can be tricky because to become aware of it is not as easy and it takes time.
And because we’ve learned that what’s happening in the world around us is way more important than our piddly old self. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
You are the most important person in your life. Wow, how does that feel when you read it?
Let’s face it we’ve been taught otherwise and of course there’s nuance to this because we are here for others too but if you haven’t put the time into making yourself healthy, focusing on the stuff you love and finding space for you everyday then connecting with others is just going to feel depleting because you aren’t giving it to yourself first.
Taking personal responsibility for your life all starts with how you take care of yourself. This ripples out to others and then eventually they are inspired by you.
I share this with lots of love and compassion because I’ve spent years taking care of others before I really had a chance to meet my own needs first. To the extent that I depleted myself. I didn’t have anything to give because I wasn’t filing my own cup.
What I’ve learned is if you can meet your own needs like prioritizing your workout, taking time to plan your meals, allowing time to get rest or downtime and including play in your life, overtime you’ll develop a strong sense of self and inner knowing.
In other words, a deeper connection with yourself. This leads to having the capacity to be with others because you’ve met your own needs first.
Not only that, you’ve spent time and reserved space to be with your emotions. This is the most important thing my clients and community realize. Allowing your emotions to move is necessary for repairing your relationship with your body and to have more energy.
You’ll develop the emotional capacity and honesty with yourself that’s required to be present with other people when they’re going through their emotions. Plus you’ll have a higher capacity to love them because you’ve opened up more capacity for loving yourself.
And let me share that this is not something that transforms overnight. It may take time. So that’s why it’s so important to take space for yourself everyday to get to know you and connect with you more everyday.
That’s why I created the Finally Thriving Community to support you every month with what you need to feel healthy and to know yourself better. Read more about it below.
The takeaway here is that the space you make for you everyday will put you back into the reality of yourself. This is what self realization is all about and it’s necessary in order for you to be collaborative in the world.
I got to talk with one of my longtime mentors Paul Chek about this topic and so much more on his podcast Spirit Gym.
I really loved what Paul shared about his definition of reality…
“Reality is what your life depends on, it’s not about how many likes you get on social media, but it does depend on watering the crops and feeding the animals and keeping the earth healthy and having healthy relationships. That’s really what the self is, it’s everything your life depends upon.”
It’s about focusing on what you need to not only survive but to thrive and get back to what is real for you in your life.
